Thought for the Day
“When I was a student at MIT, we all shared one computer and it took up a whole building. The computer in your cell phone today is a million times cheaper and a thousand times more powerful. What now fits in your pocket 25 years from now will fit into a blood cell and will again be millions of times more cost effective."

— Ray Kurzweil

Your Planet DDS Smart Marketing Tip: “Generating Content for Facebook”

In our last newsletter we established that Facebook is not a good place for constant self-promotion. It not only drives away potential fans, but can even turn people you are already interacting with against you. You can come off looking like a pushy salesperson real quick if you are only posting information directly related to sales. These posts are the frame of reference from which your fans will judge your Facebook presence and in turn, your entire business.

Let’s face it, the reason we are talking about Facebook is to generate sales. So what kind of content is going to get other people interested in your business enough to establish a relationship that could eventually lead to a sale? We have found that one of the most valuable ways to establish relationships on Facebook is to share quality content that others will be interested in. This helps generate conversations with your fans as well as establishes you as a person or business in the know. Here’s three suggestions that aren’t particularly time consuming and are great sources of content you can share on Facebook.

Follow the Blogs
There are some great dental industry blogs. If you subscribe to your favorite blogs’ email lists and they’ll deliver content directly to your inbox. You can quickly scan it and see what you might want to share, no need for searching. We also suggest broadening your scope to blogs that interests you and may have nothing to do with your business. This can help create a personal view of yourself and your business.

Set Up Google Alerts
Google Alerts were once described to us as, "a journalist’s ultimate cheat tool." You can set up Google alerts through your Google account to send you targeted articles containing your "alert" term. For example, if you can set up a Google alert for "dentistry" and Google will send you an email once a day on the "best" articles the search engine could find about dentistry in the past 24 hours. You can set it up to send you articles once or multiple times a day. Google alerts are extremely easy to set up, you just have to Google it!

Share Other Facebook Users’ Posts
This is in no way stealing other peoples’ content. On the contrary, if you share other peoples’ content you are is broadening the scope of their influence to your entire audience. We suggest becoming a fan of heavy hitting internet marketers or news sources as a for great share-able content.

New at Planet DDS
We have a new menu option (and the corresponding security right) in the Reports menu called My Reports. This menu is designed to allow all users to print all their own user related reports as well as reports for a single provider. This may apply if that user is also a provider (e.g. Hygienist or a doctor) or that user is responsible for a specific provider (e.g. an assistant). Click here for more details.

Floss is Boss

The importance of floss in maintaining dental hygiene goes without saying. In a recent issue of This Old House Magazine, Mark Feirer offered up these 10 uses for floss as a home improvement tool around your house.

  1. Tame your frames. This Old House general contractor Tom Silva likes to hang pictures with it instead of braided wire, which can mar wall paint.
  2. Sew something. To reattach buttons, Eagle scout and avid DIYer Jason Gordon packs a needle with an eye large enough for threading it.
  3. Seal connections. Tom Silva has also used it instead of Teflon tape, to block leaky gaps around parts that screw into place. He just winds a length around the fitting's threads half a dozen turns before screwing it on.
  4. Foil frays. Wrapping rope ends with floss is called whipping and stops unraveling.
  5. Protect bits. Remove the guide and empty spool, and the container itself can cradle a router's trim bit.
  6. Tie down trunks. Ten loops actually hold.
  7. Replace a broken shoelace.
  8. Floss tools. The braided kind works best in crevices between equipment parts.
  9. Repair wood. A length of floss stretched taut, rolled in glue, and then worked into split seams fills fissures with adhesive.
  10. Hang it all. It's a clothesline for bathing suits, and, as TOH reader and dental hygienist Lee Ibes learned, mint green is an invisible tieback for natural garlands.

From Our Support Department
Having trouble getting your electronic claims to transmit from Denticon? Are you getting the error message "Error Authenticating Eclaims [3]" on your screen? That message means your office has changed your DentalXChange password, which no longer matches the information that is recorded in Denticon’s records. As a result, the Denticon-to-DentalXChange bridge is “broken” and claims cannot be transmitted from Denticon to DentalXChange. To update your DentalXChange password directly in Denticon, click the word “Setup” and choose the “Offices” option. Choose your office name, and click the "Edit Offices" button. Select the "Setup" tab. Input your new DentalXChange password in the “EHG Password” field, and confirm the password in the next field. Save your change, and you're back in business!

Planet DDS Trivia Challenge

The American Film Institute has come up with a list of what they call their “Top 100 Movie Quotes of All Time.” According to A.F.I., which of these three is the #1 favorite movie quote, ever?

1. “I’m going to make him an offer he can’t refuse.” (The Godfather - 1972)
2. “Go ahead, make my day.” (Sudden Impact - 1983)
3. “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.” (Gone with the Wind - 1939)

With three iconic quotes, this was a tough one. If you guessed, “I’m going to make him an offer he can’t refuse,” you are a good guesser because that was the second most popular movie quote according to A.F.I. The winning quote was spoken by Clark Gable playing Rhett Butler in Gone With the Wind. “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn,” is the most popular quote of all time.
